3 Retired Champions
Saturday’s Presidents lunch paid tribute to 3 Old Xaverian players who before retiring at the end of last year contributed greatly to the club for many, many years.
Ted Woodruff, Tim Fleming, and Tim Clarke were joined by family and friends in what was the biggest lunch we have ever had at the club. An emotional Simon Lethlean spoke of his respect for each, first as a team mate, and then as a coach, and recalled some of his fonder memories of their time at the club.
Milestone - Stuart Skidmore 150 Games
This Saturday sees one of the Old Xavs’ favourites play his 150th game for the Club. Stuart Skidmore is a true footballing warrior and all those who have seen him play, and played alongside him, have marvelled at his hardness at the contest and his relentless pursuit of the football.
Club State Representatives
On the Queen’s Birthday long weekend just gone the traditional State games were played and number of Old Xaverian players were selected to represent the ‘Big V’.
On Sunday morning the VAFA Under 19 side took on the VCFL side and came away with an impress win. The crowd was full of AFL scouts and in an impressive performance, team co-Captain Dan Noonan won the President’s Medal for best on ground. Dan was outstanding all afternoon holding together a solid defence with poise, strength and long kicking to position - Dan pictured below on the right.
The Sheik's Superside: Halfway Mark 2010
He has been missing for a long time, but now he is back and he has decided that he won't just name his top 30 VAFA players, but he'd put them into a team.
Surely there will be some who disagree with the top 30 and the team, so let us know who the great man has missed, and who would be better in a certain position - admin@oldxavs.com.au
Just to ruffle even more feathers our towel headed friend has chosen to name his top 10!
Mr Chips Is Back!
OUT OF RETIREMENT AND BACK INTO IT!
It’s been a while since I wrote to you all, but my return has been induced with the gift of a personal computer. Clearly, the new webmaster is more generous than the last fellow, who used to make me use an old typewriter (and I mean old) to produce an error-free manuscript. However, it has taken me a while to master this modern convenience, and I could blame my long absence on that. More to the point, it has been that Mrs Chips is more adept than I on this machine and she has discovered the internet. She tells me it is full of plenty of sites about golf and that of course occupies most of her time when she is not away playing that confounded game.
