President Matt Cosgrave announced today that senior coach James Byrne will continue in his role when football activity resumes.

”James had his squad fit, firing, and ready to roll after a strong spring/summer program and is very keen to oversee our next campaign,” Cosgrave said.

“We had been hoping that would be the 2020 campaign, but now we cross our fingers and hope for next year.

”I am sure our players will be heartened by the news that Byrnesy has again committed.

“We were certainly impressed with the way he went about prepping his squad for the season, and I don’t think that time he had with them will be wasted at all. We’ll be better because of it,” Cosgrave said.

BROWNE STEPS DOWN

On the debit side of the ledger, Murray Browne has informed us that he will not be back as WOX senior coach.

”Muzza has been a great contributor to our club as a development coach, football director, Reserves premiership coach, and more recently as WOX coach, who guided our girls to a grand final and back into Premier section,” Cosgrave said.

”His enthusiasm, know-how and good humour will be missed. Perhaps the greatest measure of any coach is the ability to get the best from his/her players and the team. Muzza has that knack in spades and his teams almost always played at their best when needed.

”We thank Murray for his great service, and we hope to see him and hear him on the terraces giving our teams great support.
