On Good Friday last, the VAFA released the fixture for this season's Premier Thirds.

When previous CEO Michael Sholly introduced the Thirds a decade ago, the intent of the competition was to have the 3rd XVIII of each Premier club playing the same opponent as the 1s and 2s. It was an 18 week home and away season, which differentiated the Thirds from the Club XVIII. The bonus was the Thirds playing on Grand Final Day at Elsternwick, as the morning fixture prior to the season's final two games.

It would appear all of this thinking has been abandoned. The Premier Thirds is now a 14 games season, with finals in August. There is no distinction between this competition and the other Thirds comps previously known as Club XVIII.

The Menages' season begins at St Bernard's. A fortnight later, they welcome the Snow Dogs to Stradbroke for the return bout. That match-up is then done for the year unless the teams meet in the finals.
