RALPH'S NEW ROLE
O'Shaughnessy is Xavs' Footy GM
It was the turn of the Thirds trio of teams to hit the road. All returned with the points.
A close shave for Tim's Tyros as they topped the Caledonians. Ten more scoring shots yielded just a five point advantage.
Stinger Stanley was best afield for the second week on end. He booted two goals in the win, as did Tim Barbakos.
Team manager James Lowe reports:
Conditions were wet and slippery with a strong wind favouring the scoreboard end.
Xavs started well kicking with the wind but failed to capitalise, kicking 3.4 to 1.2.
The second term was an even affair, with Scotch making the most of their opportunities with the breeze kicking three straight to Xavs 1.2
At half-time, the coach implored his boys to stop over-using the ball wanting one handball then a kick to position.
The boys came out and had the game on their terms, but poor kicking 2.6 v 2.0 again kept Scotch alive and coming home with a 4 goal breeze.
Our defence stood up in the last quarter and used the boundary to advantage, however Scotch managed to kick two goals with the breeze and got their noses in front with five minutes to go.
Relentless work from our mids got the ball deep into our forward line and out of nowhere, Tim Barbakos kicked his second for day allowing Xavs to come away with a hard fought 5 point win over the arch-enemy.
Next week, the third-placed 23s meet fifth-placed Old Trinity at Stradbroke Park.
