RALPH'S NEW ROLE
O'Shaughnessy is Xavs' Footy GM
A wire-to-wire win for the Reserves on David Landrigan's second debut as mentor of the Magoos.
The Xavs played fairly well in challenging conditions, with the wind and morning rain lifting the degree of difficulty.
The Eye was at the game:
After 18 months waiting for R1, the Reserves had a convincing yet frustrating win first up against St Bernards out at the Snake Pit. In wet and windy conditions, the boys got out of the blocks with a 3 goal 5 quarter and were running like a well oiled machine. Tom SImmons and Billy Kennedy were dangerous up forward, while big Alec Spralja fed his midfielders with silver service ruckmanship. Down back, captain Charlie Woodley, Jack Whitehead and co. were miserly, not allowing the Bernies any entries inside their forward 50.
Throughout the rest of the game, all players took advantage of some better weather which brought out some better skills. Tom Hart was workman-like at CHF in a best- on-ground performance. Jack Hewitt, Charlie Holmes and Tommy Amad all showed serious class throughout the day, as did the veteran Louis Denton, creating from the midfield for his mates up forward.
The Bernies did come back, but the backline were steadfast in their approach all day and kept the opposition to only 3 goals for the day.
No injuries were reported and hopefully back at Toorak Park this week, there will be an enthralling encounter against Old Scotch.
