With the cattle available for the Red 'n' Blacks, one might have anticipated a poer performance against the visiting Ts. The Green team, however, have some depth themselves these days and fought hard all day.

The Claret and Stout, however, continued to punch holes in the Hedgeburners' hull and zipped away in the second half to win their home opener.

Jake Williams, Xavs consensus BOG, once was asked  by a human resources recruiter about his career goals. He answered  "hundreds, and plenty more to come". He added another seven yesterday, his biggest haul in  a while and looked to be close to the devastating form he showed in 2013.

His younger teammates showed plenty too. Ben Banting and Paddy Phillips were in good touch, while Josh Anderson enjoyed the freedom of an on-ball role and exerted plenty of pressure in the contest.

Joe Tobin played his first game in 18 months and showed he will do some damage once he acclimatises fully to wearing the guernsey rather than wielding the whiteboard.
