RALPH'S NEW ROLE
O'Shaughnessy is Xavs' Footy GM
Long-time Xavier Curator Gary Rosewarne passed away suddenly last Wednesday, aged 68.
Since 1997, Gary was was chiefly responsible for the beautiful ovals and pitches at Barkers Road. He was due to retire this December.
Our club had many dealings with Gary over the years about the use of the XC ovals for pre-season and women's football. He always tried his best to meet our requests and was always patient, professional and friendly. He enquired regularly about the progress of individuals whom he remembered from their days at Xavier.
Many Xavier alumni were coached by Gary, who played over 300 games for the Elsternwick Football Club, where he booted nearly 500 goals and was coach of that club on several occasions. He was most recently that club's Director of Football, capping over fifty years of service to the Wickers. A VAFA man to his bootstraps, he resisted multiple offers to play elsewhere. Gary was also a handy bowler who captained the Elsternwick Cricket Club.
Our deepest condolences to Gary's wife, Erin, his daughter Blaire (and her family); and his son, Matthew on their loss.
Farewell, Gary. Thanks for your great service to our club.
Requiescat in pace.
