WOX TRY-OUT ATTRACTS PLENY

October 15, 2017
Welcome to the Old Xavs.

The Old Xaverians Women signalled today that they mean business for 2018.

A beautiful Sunday morning and the green lawns of Xavier College provided the perfect setting for players to display their skills in front of coaches Rohenna Young and Matt Handley as the clock ticked over the scheduled start time of 10:30am, there were more than sixty girls ready to go.

For forty odd, it was their first taste of Old Xavs football, and registrant-injured forward - Logie winner Millie Dalton was kept busy on the PC entering details.

Coach Young and a few of the more seasoned crew took the rookies for drills and like what they saw. Apart from the obvious quantity, there was plenty of quality shown with the Sherrin. When it came to drills using the tackle bags and the bump pads, there was plenty of aggression shown too.

After an hour or so of warm-up and skill drills, the coaches sent out the new talent for a 16-a-side practice game, and the newbies did not disappoint, showing marking and kicking skills that would indicate that things are looking up for the WOX.

Coach Young was impressed. "They had fun, and footy is meant to be fun. The skills of this new group as a whole are better than our 2017 when they began last year in October.. There's another ten or so who are keen to join us, but couldn't make it today," said the AFLW legend.

Several players who enjoyed their first taste of football this year were beaming at some of the new talent. "We are going to bigger, stronger and better, next year. I can't wait for the pre-Christmas training to begin," said one.

From Day One, there has been plenty of enthusiasm from the girls. since then, there has been plenty of improvement, and judging by the turnout today, there is plenty more to come.
