Club matriarch passes away
With the 2022 season fast approaching, Club President Matt Cosgrave has announced two significant club staff vacancies.
Club Operations Manager Marcus Allan will leave his role with the Old Xaverians in late March.
Marcus and his family will depart Melbourne for Barcelona, where his wife Nuria will take up an exciting role in environmental archaeology in the Catalan capital.
“As a premiership player, and more recently, as a capable, diligent and innovative administrator, Cuz has given our club great service for over a decade,” OXFC President Matt Cosgrave said.
“We are sorry to lose him, as he has always given us his best, on and off the field. He has been one of the prime instigators in steering the Old Xavs through the murky waters of the past couple of years.
“Over the years, Marcus and his family have won many friends at the club. I am sure these relationships will survive the distance and years.
“Congratulations on a job well done and our very best for the future. No doubt many Old Xavs will come calling in Barcelona in future years, looking for a bed, a glass or two of Estrella Damm and some tickets to Champions League fixtures at Camp Nou," he said.
Cosgrave also announced that Scott Gowans will step down from his role as senior coach of the WOX.
“Our senior WOX coach Scott Gowans will be moving to Sydney to take up the role as the Swans’ first AFLW coach. We congratulate him on his appointment, Scott will remain in his role as Head of Women's Football and will play a pivotal role in finding his replacement,” the President said.
“While these departures come at a critical time in our season, they create opportunities for others. Our club network has many great and resourceful people, and I’m confident it won’t be long before we have new people on board to take our club onward,” said Cosgrave.
Both roles will be advertised in the near future and we encourage anyone seeking involvement with the OXFC to respond.
