RALPH'S NEW ROLE
O'Shaughnessy is Xavs' Footy GM
With the Red team having a week off, the Old Xavs Black team carried the colours into a twi-night clash with Old Trinity at Toorak Park.
The game was a competitive affair early, but in the second half, the Trinity girls shone brighter and were more effective with the football.
A lack of marking power and inability to keep the goal umpire busy have been problems all season. Improvement in both will come with a diligent approach to training.
Audrey Rhodes was the only Xav to split the uprights, while Carle Rooks, Maddie Sorrenti and Big V squad member Rily Christgoergl were three of the better performers.
Coach Young commented:
It was a disappointing result in the end, after we went all out in the first half and follows instructions to attack the contest. Every player attacked the ball and ran on and this gave us total control of the game - except for the scoreboard, which is the crucial part. We had 70% of the ball but couldn't free on leads to give us chancy at uncontested marks,. Instead, balls being kicked to packs and contests. The score at half time meant we should have been able to come out and really push for the win but we again only played consistently for half a game and this week the second half was our downfall - Trinity got on top and were first to the ball and things just stared to fall their way and we weren't able to respond.
The pleasing thing is that the attacking style that we have been training for was evident in the first half and so we just need to keep working on the other aspects that are letting us down, and in the coming weeks. bring them from the training track and onto the field.
