RALPH'S NEW ROLE
O'Shaughnessy is Xavs' Footy GM
The Reserves clash with Uni Blues is always keenly anticipated. While other clubs have second squads that occasionally spire to winning a game in the post-season, Xavs and the Varsity can usually expect to be there at the very end. It's been that way for years.
The way the respective teams began today's contest, it was hard to see Xavs being anywhere at the end of the game. But the re-calibration began in the second term, and by the end of the third, it was obvious that the Red 'n' Blacks had taken over entirely and would retain top position on the ladder.
Robbie Ralph was outstanding in defence. The move to the back half has seen him hit a rich vein of form, perhaps the richest of his career. He is playing with confidence and flair, providing aerial strength, run and rebound.
Harry Batten was hard and effective and plenty of his teammates came to life as the afternoon progressed. As Blues dropped away, Xavs pushed the accelerator and won it going away.
