Ro Young's black team returned to the winner's circle at Ramsden Street with a narrow win over Fitzroy.  

The Xavs dominated for most of the day, but their kicking for goal was a low-light that left the coach extremely frustrated at proceedings.

Neither team kicked a goal after half-time and as a consequence, the result remained in doubt until the final siren.

REDS

The Red team was slow to start and could not keep pace with a slicker Fitzroy team.

Despite the scoreboard deficit, the Xavs continued their efforts throughout the game.

Coach Moodie reports:

I cannot speak highly enough about the effort of every player in the Red team today. Each week we are challenged through injury which means players are being asked to play in new positions and take on roles out of their comfort zone. This is a big ask especially as most of the Red team are playing their first season. It mightn’t feel like it but it is helping with your development. Each week I can see that you give 100% and each week you improve. Our supporters have commented to me on your improvement. Being disappointed is not a bad thing because it shows you want more. Roh mentioned about the guts and grit…this is an obvious trait amongst the Red and Blacks.
