ANOTHER XAVS QUARTET CHOSEN

Four more Xaverians heard their names called on Day 2 of the 2018 AFL Draft.

The Western Bulldogs chose Laitham Vandermeer, (left) at Pick 37. Vandermeer hails from Mooroopna and boarded at XC. He is a line-breaker, using his speed and agility to rebound from the defensive 50. He has a penetrating kick and uses it to gain quality metres for his side.represented Vic County in the National Championships.

Carlton looked to Barkers Road and chose both Finbar O’Dwyer and Ben Silvagni.

Carlton describes O’Dwyer as a lively 190cm forward who can prove troublesome for the opposition’s defence. His reading of the game as well as his agility are his assets.

Ben Silvagni joins his brother Jack at Princes Park.

Like his father Stephen, he can play forward or back. Carlton say he has “great hands and mobility for his size, and expect he could hold down a key role.


Hawthorn finished their Friday by choosing Will Golds in the rookie draft.

Will is the younger brother of Tim and Gabby. He is a medium midfielder/defender with elite running ability, clean hands and neat disposal.
