FRANTASTICS WIN THEIR FIRST: YOUNG ONES CRASH

June 3, 2018

REDS:

There was mayhem on the Chapel Oval when the final siren blew. The crowd spilled on to the field as teammates embraced. Hooting and hollering abounded as the Frantastics survived late pressure from St Kevin's to take their first premiership points of the season.

The Xavs got going early, kicking a goal in the first and another in the second. But from then on, St Kevin's had more opportunities. They look dangerous for most of the second half and then with ten minutes remaining, booted a major to put them within a kick.

The Xavs defence held firm, repelling every attack, tackling hard and finding a new and compassionate best friend in the boundary line.

Congrats to coach Fran Moodie and all of the brave young ladies who have worked hard for their first win. After the game, St Kevin's President Michael Doble visited the Xavs 'rooms and congratulated the Xavs on their first win. A classy touch. (After which, mayhem resumed!)

Coach's comment: It was your off-ball work and never give up attitude that got you over the line. I’m so, so, so proud of everyone.
Voting was extremely hard as there were 21 players and our runner who were best on ground. I have to mention Eliza’s great captaining today. Well done!

BLACKS

St Kevin's reversed the early-season result and handed Xavs a heavy defeat on the Chapel Oval this afternoon.

The visitors were harder at the football, used it better and kicked at the sticks with greater purpose.

Coach Young: We need to give a more consistent performance week to week and keep persevering and learning. Our attack at the ball as a team was not as good as we have delivered in the past couple of weeks, and so we must get back to ensuring that we are first to the ball and making a contest.

We did have some highlights and the efforts of those holding their position and being where the ball was going next was pleasing. Our marking is improving but still needs consistency. I know there is a lot to learn and think about during a game so we just need to make sure that each week every player is doing their role and trying to improve individually, and then we incorporate that improvement into the overall team performance.

You are all relatively new to footy but all have great potential so go and attack each game, don't be afraid to make mistakes as you can learn from them and adjust. If you don't try and do the things we are practising as you fear mistakes, then we won't improve, So always, always go for it.
