Club matriarch passes away
With team manager non-pareil Terry Landrigan scouting his seat in the Toorak Park grandstand for season 2022, OXFC President Matt Cosgrave has revealed that the father-son duo of Anthony and Charlie Rohan would take charge of getting the men’s senior and reserves teams on to the field.
Neither will be strangers to players or fans of the Red ‘n’ Blacks. Charlie, a recent XC graduate, has run the boundary, carried the water and operated the scoreboard for the Xavs in recent years, while Anthony has utilised his experience and fairness in waving the flags for the Reserves.
The Rohans are looking forward to the challenge. “We’re not replacing Terry, we’re succeeding him,” said Anthony.
“Terry has been at the epicentre for many years and no-one can replicate his efforts or influence. When I walk into the Terry Landrigan Centre of Excellence, I feel as if there should be a holy water font by the door.
“We are delighted to be helping out again. Charlie dragged me down to Toorak Park many years ago to watch a game, and we were both immediately hooked.
“I am sure that many others walked in as strangers and left the same day knowing the Xavs were in their blood.
“The only downside is that watching the Xavs and being involved with the great people around the club makes the AFL seem less enjoyable.
Anthony, a De La Salle alumnus, steps into the office that has a touch of a Blue and Gold tradition. Terry Landrigan’s grandsons played with De La, and former team manager Peter McDonnell played their too. Razor Ray McLean probably enjoyed the ice-cream from the long-lost, lamented Dairy Bell.
“We are as keen as the players and coaches are to get into season 2022. The past couple of years have been difficult for so many, and the return of the week-to-week ebbs and flows of a VAFA football season will be welcomed by so many,” Anthony continued.
“We will do our best to ensure that our boys will run out looking the part each week. There’s a lot to learn, but the processes set in place by our predecessors in the role will show us the way,” he said.
President Matt Cosgrave said that team managers are a vital cog in the Xavs’ operation and that he was delighted that the Rohan combo had accepted the role and responsibilities that accompany it.
