RALPH'S NEW ROLE
O'Shaughnessy is Xavs' Footy GM
BLACKS
The Young Ones went down to Melbourne University for the second time this year, but continued to show the grit, determination and improvement that promises better days ahead.
Coach Young commented:
Some tough conditions today to play in, but the pleasing thing is that everyone that pulled on the Old Xavs jumper today had a red hot go which you can all be very proud of.
I couldn't fault the endeavour and heart out there today. Was really pleased, and thought that this was actually our best four-quarter effort of the season as far as consistent effort and full team performance.
The only thing beating us is just the final execution of the small things that MU did just a little better than us - holding marks and creating space in a turn over so that we can kick to a player rather than a contest - stood out as the difference. And of course just getting more shots on goal is critical to chalk up a score to win. Good team effort - well done.
June is traditionally the month where everyone is tested with cold weather and some competing demands. As a team, we are always better when we stick together and work through the tougher times. This means pushing hard and coming to training and grinding it out when it is easier to be at home with the heater on. Push yourselves and the rewards will come.

REDS
The Frantastics were well beaten by a team that is clearly the most experienced in this section, but showed plenty of heart.
Coach Fran Moodie reports:
Another big step forward by the Reds.
Playing in true winter conditions, and with the bare minimum of 18 players, the Reds took on one of the best in the division and did a mighty fine job. It wasn’t the prettiest of games, but a well fought out effort were everyone worked hard at the contest and restricted Melb Uni from playing their natural game.
We need to work on is moving the ball into the forward line and converting opportunities and can do this at training.
Three of the Melb Uni coaches made a point of coming over after the game to comment on Reds' noticeable improvement, the intensity around the ball and tackling. They mentioned how well you played as a team. It‘s pleasing that opposition coaches recognise our development and efforts.
