The Red ‘n’ Blacks played out two willing intra-club contests in high heat and wind at Tullamarine today.

The WOX began their action and provided some early season highlights for the assembled. Grace Knox’s six-pointer might be an early  contender for Goal of the Year, but it will more likely be forgotten as the Brownies and the Frantastics look to play consistent football that will produce bigger highlights and  bring greater rewards.

The conditions did not augur well for slick football, but the WOX ran out their four quarter contest, with several players wearing the Xavs jumper for the first time (and in some cases, ANY jumper). Coaches Browne and Moodie were in good spirits post-game, having spotted some new highs and identified areas where some more work is needed.

With 2:00pm approaching, the men took the stage.

Even before they did, the Possibles laid down the gauntlet to the Probables, seizing the black home jumpers and leaving the better credentialed lineup to wear the red clash guernseys.

Once afield, the contest was quick and hard, with friendships put aside for more than an hour. Satisfied with what he had seen of his charges in match conditions, Coach Satterley abandoned the game at the lemons.

The performance nonetheless indicated that there will be solid competition for spots in Seniors, Reserves and Thirds. It would surprise if some who played today in the Possibles didn’t have their board magnets moved for the next pre-season hit-out with Nick Bourke’s Old Geelong on 16 March.
