MERRY CHRISTMAS
And all the best for 2025
Paul Newton will join the Old Xaverians Football Club as its Commercial Operations Manager.
The former Collegians 100 gamer, and more recently Old Carey president and VAFA board member, has a strong background in accounting, auditing and finance.
In making the announcement, President Matt Cosgrave said that Paul is the ideal fit for this newly created role with the Old Xaverians.
“We welcome Paul Newton to our club. We’re delighted to have someone of his professional and personal stature join us to take on a job that is central to our future success. Our commercial endeavours are more vital every season, with our club still in the expansion stage.
“Paul will be responsible for the commercial elements of our football club with a big focus on our Boots ‘n All partnership program, where there is excellent opportunity for growth, both for our club and for its backers. We know that our corporate partners – current and future - will reap the benefits of working with him to realise their ambitions.
“Paul has the commercial background and the knowhow to drive our efforts to build our revenue base. He is a person of integrity who builds and maintains relationships. We believe his deep knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by VAFA clubs will be central to this role,” Cosgrave said.
In accepting the role, Newton said he was excited by the challenge.
“I have observed the manner in which Old Xavs has grown to become, in many ways, to be the benchmark of the VAFA competition. I’m thrilled to join a passionate team of people that has for so long pursued success and stability with such dedication,” Newton said.
President Cosgrave also announced that Marcus Allan’s role has been expanded to cover all day-to-day operations at the football club.
“As our new Secretary and Operations Manager, Marcus will work closely with Paul Newton and our capable committee people to ensure we are stronger in 2020 and beyond,” he said.
