Following the most rigorous and extensive coaching selection process ever undertaken by the Old Xaverians Football Club, President Matt Cosgrave has announced that Paul Satterley has been appointed Senior Coach of the club for season 2019.

Paul joins the Old Xaverians from the De La Salle Old Collegians Football Club, where he coached for five years. Previously, he had been a full-time development coach at Melbourne Football Club (AFL), senior coach at Werribee (VFL), Head Coach at Northern Knights (TAC), and a premiership coach at Hoppers Crossing (WRFL).

As a player, he was a member of the Western Bulldogs AFL list for three years and later won the coveted JJ Liston Trophy while playing with Werribee.

"Paul Satterley ticked all the boxes for us, and we fully trust that Paul's tenure will be an enjoyable and successful partnership between coach and club," Cosgrave said.

“Our numerous conversations with Paul have revealed that he has a solid understanding of the culture of our club and that he will be a good fit in that regard. We spoke to many people about him and all spoke glowingly about Paul's character and abilities.

"His broad experience in football, and most particularly his time in the VAFA Premier section, will stand him in good stead with our players and our wider Xaverian football community.

"Over the coming weeks, we will be working with Paul to finalise his coaching team.

"On behalf of everyone at our club, we welcome Paul and his family - wife Liz, daughters Ava and Summer and sons Tom and Jack -  to the Red 'n' Blacks.

"We wish to thank Matt Hannebery for doing an outstanding job as interim coach from early in this season. His passion and love of the Old Xavs was evident when he filled the breach at short notice, guiding our team to the brink of finals. We are indebted to Matt, Geri and the family for their significant contribution to our club in our time of need.

"We applaud the dedication and hard work of Matt’s senior assistants Daniel Donati, Pat Hawkins and James Byrne during a year that challenged us all,” Cosgrave said.
